When filing a drone insurance claim, you will always want to make sure you submit your drone's correct FAA registration number.
As of February 2019, drone pilots are required to have their FAA drone registration number visible on the external drone body. However, depending on how you display this number, it may disappear. The ink can wipe right off or the sticker can peel with time. Moreover, in the event of a drone disappearance, you will not be able to locate the number directly from the drone itself.
In order to avoid losing or forgetting your UAV registration number, always keep both an extra physical and digital copy on file. Should the number begin to fade away be sure to replace it immediately.
Follow these steps to retrieve your FAA UAV registration number online:
- Login to the FAA Drone Zone's Website here. Be sure to log in with the same email you originally registered with.
- Upon logging in, you’ll be redirected to the home screen which displays your registration number on the left-hand side, along with the date of issue and expiration.
If you cannot log in to your account, or reset your password, the FAA will require that you re-register the drone and obtain a new registration number. You will also be required to repay the $5 registration fee.
